The weekly programme covers classical, contemporary, experimental, electroacoustic and electronic music, and sonic art, though not pop, folk, blues and rock styles.

We are open to submissions, and love receiving CD's in the post.

Soundart Radio is the licensed community radio station for the Totnes area, commercial free, volunteer run and non-profit. We specialise in arts and experimental programming, and provide airspace for rarely heard work.

HISTORY

YES! Women composed great music through time and around the planet! Under represented still today, we want to give more visibility to female composers, re -tell the story and include those who deserve to be included in the History we want to hear and expect to hear today, in the XXIst century!

ART OF SOUNDS

The world of music has expanded itself tremendously since the invention of electricity, transmission, recording and digital technologies.
Composers choose to work with traditional instruments, the same as composers of the classical periods while others use recorded sounds, synthetic sounds or a mixture of them all. Some explore the cultural language of the West, others explore other cultures. Some design and experiment with new sounds discovered through new technology, create interactive work, multi-disciplinary work and much more...
Radio is an airspace and an expressive medium with its own characteristics and possibilities.

The Soundart Radio story

SoundartRadio started a decade ago. A different way to do radio, an art radio, not a journalistic one and not a commercial one. Something different and valuable made by volunteers. A community radio for our locals, for our friends and the international community. Soundart radio used to be on the Dartington College of Arts campus with a great music library and a fantastic living, creative force but the college was deleted and the world keeps changing drastically. Never mind! Soundart radio keeps growing and creating unique opportunities for makers and listeners.

Our show, Hildegard to Hildegard, started in the first days of Soundart radio. Women in radio, in music and in arts really deserve more space on air and it was natural for concious people in this day and age to answer to an unanswered need, air space for female music , composers and sound artists. Lucinda created the concept and started the show then Ariane came in August 2008 and Sophie joined in 2013. Time passed and we continued our project 'til today, it's all exciting! So many talents, so much great music to enjoy and so much wealth and quality to promote! So much to do and so little time. Our adventure continues, next episode coming soon...

We are situated in a beautiful county, with two National Parks and many other beautiful places. Our radio station is in Dartington, close to the South Devon Area Of Natural Beauty.
